Job Information

We are seeking one or more motivated Research Assistant to work on a short-term research project funded by S-TRIG from the UK Catapult Network. The research aims at providing extra capacity to the UK government to identify and counter hostile drones. With the support provided by the team, the successful candidates will research and implement solutions, with a prospect of research publications if good results are achieved, in the area of image-based drones analysis using deep learning. Possible functionalities may include drones detection, tracking, classification, reidentification, etc., which will be decided based on the candidates' strength and experience.

The project is for 3 months. Applicants can indicate the preferred mode of working (full-time/part-time) and the location of working (work-from-home/Durham University). In the part-time mode, the project will still have the same duration while the candidate will work on one sub-part of the job.

The project is led by Dr Hubert P. H. Shum, who is an Associate Professor in Computer Science. He organized international conferences such as BMVC and ACM SIGGRAPH MIG, and is an Associate Editor of CGF and a Guest Editor of IJCV. He has published over 100 research papers in computer vision, graphics and machine learning.

Eligibility

As a funding requirement, we will only consider candidates who are eligible to work in the UK. Masters/Doctoral students holding the UK student visa may apply this as a part-time job.
